Basically what the F-350 Lariat Super Duty is like to drive. On ramps are equal parts thrilling and terrifying and “oh was that the speed limit already?” Corvettes and supercharged Camaros are fast, but your perceptions of speed are completely turned upside down when said speed is happening in something that feels not-small pulling alongside a tractor-trailer.
Also getting it back out of the photobooth was all sorts of fun. I want to throttle whoever designed this door arrangement.

It gets even more interesting when you have fenders and tires outboard the bed walls, although they make a good point of reference when backing into a parking spot.
And, interestingly, the dually can succumb to snap oversteer, although recovering from the skid is a fairly uneventful process. Countersteer a bit, and she settles out.

I want to see drifting dually 1-ton pickups.

I like that the headlights are position-corrected for the factory high ride. Try that sometime, bro truckists - it’s a different look, and one that looks good. Oh, and doesn’t Optic Blast people in front of you.

We have a 2500 chevy duramax at work, it’s crazy fast. Once you get that turbo spooled up all hell breaks loose.

I remember back in the day... My redneckish uncle from Florida was a truck driver, and he came up to visit us in Vermont after dropping a load in Mass, so he was bobtailing. I think he was driving about a 1987 or so Mack MH613 Ultraliner cab-over sleeper with the V8 E9-500, and I think a semi-custom 3-range 18 speed. I don’t know what axle ratio he had —knowing Uncle G. it was geared for speed, and he relied on the low-range of the 18-speed when hills came into play— but in any case, back in those days big rigs didn’t have speed limiters... I remember taking a ride with him into town, passing some traffic on the highway, and looking over to see the speedometer pointing at 110mph.
It felt slow.
That messed me up good.

This 100x. First 6.7 Powerstroke I drove was a badass fucking truck. And that door isn’t even bad. Backing a dually F450 into a bay with about an inch or so space on each side is where its at.

I backed a C5500 into a small garage door like that with a Corvette and a custom dually 3500HD to squeeze between. That was good fun.

On top of that, a tune, exhaust, and intake on these 6.4s puts them in the low 5s to 60. I love driving our diesels at work. I took our Ram dually on some curvy back roads the other day, and it was hilariously fun.

I was rather stunned when I heard how much the 3500HD cost. It had a custom work bed, custom leather interior on top of the High Country package, all sorts of custom fabbed fender flares and such with a white pearlescent paint on a work-bed truck. Something like $150,000 for what was essentially a coachbuilt Chevrolet Silverado. Friggin’ rich farmers.

Holy shit, that’s insane. That F450 Platinum was like $82k. Some rich business guy who was friends with the owner of the dealership who was using it as a “work truck”. Its insane how trucks are basically a luxury item nowadays.

I drove my Dakota out a pair of double doors. You know, the kind intended for people in not-cars because the door I drove in to was parked in front of by people going to see a play.
